IRVING, Texas – In addition to signing running back Robert Turbin, the Cowboys continued to fill out their 53-man roster Wednesday by activating rookie linebacker Mark Nzeocha from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list and signing cornerback Deji Olatoye from their practice squad.
The Cowboys had a three-week window to add Nzeocha to the active roster after he began practicing Oct. 28. The seventh-round pick began the season continuing to rehab the knee injury he suffered in his final college season at Wyoming.
Olatoye, who has been on the practice squad the entire season, will take Corey White's spot as the fifth cornerback. Undrafted out of North Carolina A&T in 2014, he spent time on the Ravens and Chiefs practice squads as a rookie. The Cowboys signed him to the practice squad Sept. 9 after the Chiefs waived him at the end of training camp.
The Cowboys opened up several roster spots Tuesday by waiving White, quarterback Brandon Weeden and running back Christine Michael. One open spot remains for quarterback Tony Romo to be activated from the injured reserve/designated to return list.
The Cowboys also signed linebacker Keith Smith back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers this week. Smith was signed to the active roster last weekend for linebacker depth against the Bucs.
Safety Tim Scott has also been signed back to the practice squad to fill Olatoye's spot. Scott went to training camp with the team and spent the first week of the regular season on the practice squad.
