IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys got an early start on signing their 2016 draft class Wednesday, reaching deals with first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott and sixth-round picks Anthony Brown, Kavon Frazier and Darius Jackson.
Terms have not been disclosed, but reports say Elliott's four-year deal is worth nearly $25 million with a signing bonus of more than $16 million.
Elliott, the fourth overall pick, is the Cowboys' earliest selection since Russell Maryland went first overall in 1991. He likely will step into a prominent role on offense right away in a running back rotation that already includes veterans Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden, the team's leading rusher in 2015.
Brown, a former Purdue cornerback and the first of four sixth-round picks, and Frazier, a former Central Michigan safety, are joining a veteran Cowboys secondary.
Elliott (Ohio State) Jackson (Eastern Michigan) are the first running backs drafted in the same Cowboys class since Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in 2008.
With four rookies signing Wednesday, there are now five draft picks left unsigned: linebacker Jaylon Smith (second round), defensive tackle Maliek Collins (third round), defensive end Charles Tapper (fourth round), quarterback Dak Prescott (fourth round) and tight end Rico Gathers (sixth round).[embeddedad0]
