Rico Gathers Enters Concussion Protocol After Accidental Collision In Practice

OXNARD, Calif. – Tight end Rico Gathers has entered the league's concussion protocol after his accidental helmet-to-helmet collision in practice on Tuesday, head coach Jason Garrett said.

Gathers collided with safety Kavon Frazier during a rep in seven-on-seven drills. He stayed on the ground for a few minutes, examined by the team's medical staff, before he was able to stand and walk off the field on his own.

"Still taking his situation day by day," Garrett said. "He obviously was taken out of practice. It was noted as a concussion initially."

The first-year tight end and 2016 seventh-round draft pick spent last season on the practice squad. He has caught a touchdown pass in each of the first two preseason games, showing clear signs of development in his transition from college basketball to NFL football.
