FRISCO, Texas –As of Tuesday, head coach Jason Garrett said he hasn't made any final decisions regarding his coaching staff now that the 2017 season is over.
The Cowboys have multiple coaches with expiring contracts. One change that is expected: Garrett said tight ends coach Steve Loney has indicated he plans to retire.
The coaches' first priority this week has been completing exit interviews with the players. Garrett said he expects to address and finalize his staff "in the coming weeks."
"We will start those discussions tomorrow and then have some conversations with the guys who are out of contract about what we want to do and how we want to put the staff together," Garrett said.
Earlier Tuesday, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones was asked on 105.3 The Fan if he would like coordinators Scott Linehan and Rod Marinelli to return. Both signed contract extensions last offseason.
"We've got a lot to talk about this week. The answer's yes," Jones said.
Garrett spoke highly of both coordinators Tuesday when asked about their status.
"We're not going to talk about any staff discussions in that regard, but obviously both those guys have been really good at their jobs for a long time in this league," Garrett said. "They've provided very good leadership for us on either side of the ball and we've been productive in those areas since those guys have been here. Always room for improvement. We have to get better. Each unit has to get better. We get that. We understand that and we'll continue to try and do that."
