IRVING, Texas --Tonight's BCS National Championship game between LSU and Alabama features the best two defenses in the nation. Not surprisingly, several defenders on both teams have a chance to boost their draft stock.
The Cowboys hold the 14th overall pick and could target any defensive position on the roster this April. One to watch tonight, particularly if Anthony Spencer isn't re-signed: Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw (6-2, 265), who leads the Tide with 8.5 sacks and has the right makeup for a 3-4 defense.
Cornerback and inside linebacker are two more positions that could get very thin for Dallas if veterans are released or allowed to leave via free agency. Alabama's 6-foot-3 corner Dre Kirkpatrick, a potential first-rounder, has size to match up with some of the league's bigger receivers. Bama inside linebacker Dont'a Hightower isn't a speed demon, but he's a big hitter and a leader as the point man for Nick Saban's scheme.
LSU corner Morris Claiborne is already touted as the best cover man in this year's crop, good enough to be out of the Cowboys' reach as a potential top 10 pick.
