IRVING, Texas – Wide receiver Cole Beasley hopes he can return sometime this week from his foot injury to play against the Bengals.
Beasley hurt his foot against the Raiders and missed last week's practices and game. He's optimistic he can return to practice before week's end, but no set timetable is in place.
"I've got to get to where I can run on my normal body weight," Beasley said, "and then after that I've got to get where I can plant and make cuts and do the things that receivers do."
As the week progresses, he'll keep adding weight on the foot until the point he can run comfortably and full speed. He was hoping for sure to be back by this game, but it depends on how the foot feels.
"Right now, it's really weak, so it's really vulnerable not really to get worse, but just a worse injury could happen to it right now if I just went out there," Beasley said. "Right now, it's tough just running on it, so planting and coming out of breaks and stuff like that is kind of out of the question right now." [embedded_ad]
Beasley was having another strong camp before the injury and seemed to be a favorite target for all the quarterbacks in his normal role as a slot receiver. He wants to get back as soon as possible and doesn't feel like his spot is secure at this point.
"The NFL, it's never really secure," he said. "It's more what you can do for them now than what you've done. Hopefully, I can get back to where I can play these last two games, two preseason games, but if not, hopefully they'll keep me around."
