FRISCO, Texas – The hits keep coming for the Cowboys on the injury front. This time it's on the offensive side of the ball as wide receiver Brandin Cooks is expected to miss at least this game Sunday, perhaps even more.
Cooks is dealing with an infection in his leg that developed after he underwent a procedure on his knee in New York following the last week's game with the Giants.
"Brandin Cooks has a knee issue. He will not be available this week," head coach Mike McCarthy said in Wednesday's press conference. "I don't talk about specific player injuries. The specifics should be answered by the players. But he will not be available."
Cooks has been dealing with this knee issue since training camp, which forced him to miss a few practices in Oxnard.
The veteran receiver still had a productive camp, emerging as the No. 1 receiver with CeeDee Lamb out with a contract holdout.
The Cowboys are expected to be without both defensive ends – Micah Parsons (ankle) and DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) for the game in Pittsburgh and potentially the Oct. 13 game vs. Detroit as well. Pro Bowl cornerback DaRon Bland (stress fracture in his foot) might need yet another week before he returns to action as well.
"Injuries happen – things come out of games," McCarthy said when asked about dealing with more setbacks. "Nothing surprises me, frankly. It's all about the NFL season."
