FRISCO, Texas – Byron Jones is headed to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.

The fourth-year veteran (and first-year cornerback) joins teammates Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, DeMarcus Lawrence and Ezekiel Elliott as Cowboys representatives for the NFC squad. Martin, Smith and Lawrence are starters; Jones and Elliott are selected as reserves.

The NFL announced the rosters for both conferences in a primetime special Tuesday.

Jones has been among the league's most productive cornerbacks since making the switch from safety in the offseason under first-year defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator Kris Richard.

Jones leads the Cowboys in pass breakups (14) and ranks fifth in tackles (65). He's the first Cowboys cornerback to make the Pro Bowl since 2009 (Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins).

"It's a great honor to be named to my first Pro Bowl," he said. "Just thinking about the teammates and how I got to this point, it took me a couple years to kind of get my home at cornerback. It just feels good, and it's a testament to what this team has done around me and how much the coaches believe in me, and the front office."

Martin and Smith, two veteran leaders on the offensive line, are back as starter selections. Martin, a Pro Bowler in each of his first five seasons, missed the first game of his career this past Sunday against Indianapolis due to a sprained knee.

Smith has now made the Pro Bowl six straight years, tying Hall of Famer Rayfield Wright for most career selections for a Cowboys tackle.

"For me, it's a huge accomplishment to get where he was as far as Pro Bowls," Smith said. "I've still got a long way to go and I'm long from being finished."

This is Lawrence's second straight Pro Bowl selection. He leads the Cowboys in sacks (8.5) and quarterback pressures (34) and has been a force against the run all season. His 8.5 sacks are among the top 20 in the league.

Elliott, now a two-time selection, currently leads the league in rushing (1,349 yards) and scrimmage yards (1,892) – 37 percent of the Cowboys' gross offensive output this season – with nine total touchdowns.

The 2019 Pro Bowl takes in Orlando on Jan. 27, the weekend before the Super Bowl.

Of course, the 8-6 Cowboys can clinch the NFC East and earn a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Tampa Bay this Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
