IRVING, Texas –With one preseason game left, it's up to the Cowboys coaching staff to decide whether Morris Claiborne needs experience more than he needs rest.
Given all the time he's missed over the offseason and during training camp, the 22-year-old knows he needs all the practice he can get, and more specifically he feels he could use more game reps.
"I feel like I can," Claiborne said. "But like I said, whatever the coaches have, that's what I'm going to do."
Claiborne missed the Cowboys' first exhibition, at Oakland, but returned to play against San Diego and St. Louis. He wasn't challenged often, but did get a chance to break up a fourth-down pass in the end zone. Whether he gets another opportunity against Miami or not, Claiborne knows he still has a lot to learn before the Cowboys leave for New York.
"The regular season is right around the corner," Claiborne said. "We've just got to go out and do our job. That's when we have off time, don't take it for granted – go study opponents. … Just keep working. Every time we have practice, walkthroughs, you've got to come in with a mental mindset of focus, and get all you can get out of it."
