FRISCO, Texas – After agreeing to terms with two offensive players in Javonte Williams and Robert Jones, the Cowboys have done the same with their first defensive player of the 2025 free agency cycle, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with former New York Jets defensive tackle Solomon Thomas.

Thomas, 29, has spent the last three seasons with the Jets and now reunites with his defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton, who was hired in the same role on Brian Schottenheimer's staff in January.

Last season, Thomas was utilized in a rotational role but played in 16 games for the Jets, tallying 26 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and three and a half sacks. He was also New York's nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, serving as the co-founder of a non-profit called "The Defensive Line," with a mission to end youth suicide and raise awareness about mental health.

The 2023 season with the Jets saw Thomas tally a career high in sacks with five, pairing it with 31 tackles and seven tackles for loss.

The year before Thomas joined the Jets, Thomas spent one year with the Las Vegas Raiders, playing in 17 games and notching 34 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

Thomas' first four seasons in the NFL were with the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted him with the third overall pick out of Stanford in the 2017 NFL Draft. In those four years, Thomas played in 48 games and started in 30, recording 95 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and six sacks.

After redshirting his first year at Stanford, Thomas went on to play 27 games with the Cardinal where he recorded 101 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. In 2016, Thomas was a first-team All-Pac 12 selection and third-team All-American.

Thomas is a Chicago native, but attended Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas, about a 20-minute drive from the Star in Frisco. Now, he gets to return to the Dallas area and play for a Cowboys defensive line that is in need of bodies in the room. At 6'3, 295 pounds, Thomas has experience coming off the EDGE and also helping on the interior of the defensive line as well.
