Cowboys Release CB Butler From Practice Squad; Sign Agnew

The Cowboys have made a roster move on the practice squad Tuesday, cutting Mario Butler, who has been with the team since last season.

The club cleared the spot for Vince Agnew, a cornerback/safety from Central Michigan. Agnew (5-10, 192) went to camp with the Dolphins and played against the Cowboys in the final preseason game in late August.

Butler, who was with the Cowboys on the practice squad last season, played in the season opener against the Giants with Mike Jenkins inactive. Butler was not activated the next week and later released and re-signed to the practice squad.

Butler played both cornerback and safety but apparently never showed the progression at either position.

The Cowboys are relatively thin at cornerback with only four on the roster in Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Jenkins and Orland Scandrick. Both Claiborne (knee) and Jenkins (shoulder) underwent MRIs on Monday for injuries but are expected to play this week.
