Unsure just how long Ezekiel Elliott will be out with his holdout, the Cowboys apparently aren't waiting around to get some veteran experience in the backfield.

The team has agreed to a 1-year contract with Alfred Morris, a seven-year veteran who spent two seasons with the Cowboys from 2016-2017, where he played in 14 games in each season.

Morris is scheduled to arrive in Oxnard Monday night and will officially sign his deal.

Last year, he played 12 games for the 49ers, but spent the first four seasons in Washington, where he had three 1,000-yard seasons.

Morris quickly increases the experience of the running back room with Zeke out. The Cowboys have been using a rotation of Darius Jackson and rookies Mike Weber and Tony Pollard.

Morris has been in a similar situation before, taking over as the starter in 2017 when Elliott served a six-game suspension.

In his time with the Cowboys, Morris rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns in 2016, and 547 yards with one score in 2017.

With Zeke being on the Did Not Report list, he doesn't count to the 90-player roster. Morris fills up the 90throster spot, which has been left open since the start of camp.
