FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up the on-field portion of the team's offseason mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, as they will use Thursday for a team activity before wrapping up for the summer ahead of leaving for Oxnard for training camp in late July.
As the offseason truly slows down this summer, Dak Prescott says he has a few "busy weeks" ahead that typically includes a retreat he takes his receivers on every year added onto the fact that he is a dad of a newborn for the first offseason in his career.
But even with all of that, head coach Mike McCarthy gave glowing remarks of how Prescott has attacked the offseason even with so much noise around his future with the team heading into a contract year in 2024.
"I think Dak is having his best offseason program that we've had," McCarthy said. "This atmosphere that we've practiced in with the quarterback and receivers has really hit the mark. I've been very impressed with the quality of work."
Heading into year two of the offensive system under McCarthy, Prescott has been able to take the next step in developing the talent around him on the offense, even with CeeDee Lamb not being present for team workouts this offseason.
"With the quarterback, when the connection is there in the perimeter realm – and that's been the majority of our physical activity – the connection is better," McCarthy said. "The receivers are playing with more urgency, more reps. The timing is better. The real test will be when we get to training camp."
Prescott echoed McCarthy's comments later on Wednesday afternoon, as he reiterated the intentional approach he takes each offseason towards getting better for the next season.
"I agree, because it's what I put into this game," Prescott said. "It's what this game means to me. I talk about it every offseason. My focus is always getting better overall in every aspect that I can and in every aspect of my game and making sure I'm pushing the guys around me. Mike's comments are a result of us doing that this offseason."
