PHILADELPHIA – When a player is on injured reserve, traveling with the team is a rare occasion.
Dak Prescott, however, is obviously the face of the franchise and now that he's starting to recover from last month's hamstring surgery, he has made the last two road trips, including Sunday's final road game in Philadelphia.
Prescott briefly chatted with reporters leaving the locker room, discussing everything from his health, the frustration of having a losing record and missing the playoffs and of course, his support for head coach Mike McCarthy, who has just one game left on his existing contract.
Prescott, who had surgery on his hamstring on Nov. 13 and has missed the last eight starts, shared his frustration with how the season has gone. The Cowboys' lost to the Eagles Sunday to drop them to 7-9, assuring them of their first losing season since 2020 when they went 6-10. Also that season, Prescott spent most of the season on IR with an ankle injury.
"Nobody plans to lose. Nobody plans to have a losing season, to be in this position. You expect the playoffs every year," Dak said. "You expect to win the division and then to be in this place or whether it's at home, playing against this team usually for the division. That's not the case. Yeah it's frustrating."
While there always needs to be some changes after a season that doesn't go as planned, Prescott has publicly expressed his desire to have McCarthy back next year and reiterated that Sunday.
"It's tough to get your job done and do your job with all that hanging over your head," Dak said of his head coach. "But credit to him, credit to his professionalism and really his coaching style of being able to get guys ready to play and go out there and finish and take pride in what we finish and what we put on tape."
As for his health, Prescott said his leg is getting stronger and he's getting closer to being able to fully run again.
"Gained some strength in it … started to use it a little bit," Prescott said. "Yeah, I'm probably a few weeks, maybe a month, from running, running. But got on the bike. So I'm definitely doing some things, moving more."
Prescott is one of several key players that are currently on IR, including Zack Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence, DeMarvion Overshown and Trevon Diggs.
