FRISCO, Texas — Another era has met its end in Dallas, as the Cowboys wave goodbye to longtime defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence who has, per multiple reports that include his agency, departed to join the Seattle Seahawks on a three-year deal.

In doing so, he will reunite with Aden Durde, former Cowboys' defensive line coach turned Seahawks' defensive coordinator in 2024.

There is simply no denying the impact Lawrence had on the Cowboys since joining the club in yesteryear. A former second-round pick out of Boise State in 2014, Lawrence climbed to the ranks of Pro Bowler on four separate occasions, and as recently as the 2023 season, also honored as an All-Pro defensive end in 2017, and he's been a heartbeat of the defense throughout his career in Dallas.

His latest trek in free agency was certainly not his first time, seeing as he was once tagged twice in a row by the Cowboys, the second one rescinded in 2019 and replaced with a multi-year deal instead, and later signing another multi-year deal, of the three-year variety, in 2022 — prior to his most recent Pro Bowl nod.

A foot injury derailed his 2024 season nearly entirely, but he made it clear weeks ago that he was not done playing football and that there's still plenty left in the Tank.

He will move on to Seattle to try and prove that true, and the Cowboys will move on toward seeking a replacement, though his likely successor already exists in former second-round pick Marshawn Kneeland.
