IRVING, Texas --The Cowboys on Wednesday afternoon agreed to terms on a two-year contract with veteran fullback Lawrence Vickers, who was released by the Texans a day earlier.
Originally a sixth-round pick of the Browns, Vickers played five seasons in Cleveland (2006-10) and the 2011 season with Houston. He was among several visits to the Cowboys' Valley Ranch facility on Wednesday.
The move has obvious implications for fullback Tony Fiammetta, who became a restricted free agent Tuesday when the Cowboys chose not to give him the one-year, $1.26 million restricted tender. Both sides discussed a multi-year deal -- likely to reduce Fiammetta's salary cap figure -- but nothing materialized.
Fiammetta became a solid lead blocker in his first full season with Dallas, and head coach Jason Garrett has stated his preference for having a true fullback on the roster.
