IRVING, Texas --Running back Felix Jones (hamstring) missed his third consecutive practice Thursday, instead doing rehab work with strength coaches and athletic trainers.
Head coach Jason Garrett said before practice that Jones would try to get in some work, but he did not take any actual football reps. Indications, though, are the team is being cautious with their starting back this week due to depth issues at the position. Rookies DeMarco Murray (ankle) and Phillip Tanner (hamstring) are on season-ending injured reserve, leaving newly-signed Sammy Morris as the only backup.
The Cowboys will release a final injury report Friday, and there still appears to be hope Jones will play Saturday against the Eagles.
"He should be able to get anything he needs to get about game plan and about what we're doing and just let this thing measure," team owner Jerry Jones said during Thursday's practice. "But he did get good stuff yesterday."
Running back Chauncey Washington is ready on the practice squad should the Cowboys decide to sign another back in time for Saturday's showdown with the Eagles.
Jones tied a career high with 22 carries for 108 yards last Saturday against Tampa Bay, but apparently began feeling tightness in his hamstring near the end.
