FRISCO, Texas – Head coach Jason Garrett says the Cowboys are prepared to work out kickers this week as a contingency after Dan Bailey left Sunday's game against the 49ers with a groin injury.
"We'll see how Dan feels today, but we're prepared to bring at least a couple guys in to have them kick for us and just certainly be ready if Dan's not available," Garrett said Monday morning on 105.3 The Fan.
Garrett didn't speculate on a timetable for Bailey's return.
"We'll just find out more today and see how he's doing," Garrett said.
Bailey injured his groin while warming up on the sideline in the second quarter. The Cowboys went for a two-point conversion after Jason Witten's touchdown catch, then substituted safety Jeff Heath for Bailey.
Heath, a high school kicker with a soccer background, handled the ensuing kickoff and replaced Bailey the rest of the game. He had two touchbacks on five kickoffs and made two of three extra point tries in the Cowboys' 40-10 victory.
If the Cowboys have to sign a second kicker this week, they would have to make a roster move to open a spot.
Bailey, seven-year veteran, is one of the NFL's most consistent kickers. A 2015 Pro Bowler, he is 7-of-7 on field goals and 16-of-16 on extra points this season.
