Fitting In: With the release of veteran wide receiver Terry Glenn, the opening for one of the young receivers to make the team widens. Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton and Sam Hurd are locks. Meanwhile, Miles Austin has the advantage from his experience as a kick returner. After that the competition appears to be wide open. Included in that mix, is the undrafted free agent Amendola.
So Far: Amendola has been one of the players who has made an immediate impression during camp. From the first day of practice, when he made a spectacular diving catch, to the interest he has drawn from HBO's "Hard Knock's", the former Texas Tech receiver has been one of the main topics of interest at camp. Everybody seems to love an underdog, and Amendola definitely fits that mold. "He's really good at coming in and out of routes," Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said after Thursday's practice. "He doesn't slow down to make his cuts and that's a good trait. He's a rookie in some ways, but he catches the ball really well and that's what you want out of a receiver . . . I think he'll be competitive to make the team. Again, we've got a long ways to go. We got to see how he does in preseason games."
Best Asset: Quickness. He is shifty and has the ability to get in and out of the defense.
You Should Know: Amendola is the self-proclaimed world's greatest table tennis player.
A Mouthful: "(Wes Welker) has had a lot of success in the NFL and my main goal is to just try to emulate some of the stuff that he's done and try to have some of the success that he's had this last year."
