The Cowboys and Commanders will complete the 2024 regular season on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
The agendas are different fro both sides as Washington is looking to improve its seed in the playoffs while the Cowboys are simply trying to finish strong.
There will be some changes for Dallas, especially at quarterback. And with so many free agents, could this be the final game for many players on this roster?
Here's how the staff writers predicted Sunday's regular-season finale.
Nick: I can't get a good read on this game. Wonder why? We really don't know who is going to play at quarterback and for how long. I would guess Trey Lance plays the most, and probably will start. And with that, again ... who knows what to expect. The Commanders don't really have a read on him but with a Dan Quinn defense, they'll do what any aggressive defense would do to a young quarterback that hasn't played a lot - attack him all day.
My guess is that Lance makes a few plays with his feet, a few with his arm and makes a few mistakes as well. Since Washington needs to win to get the No. 6 seed, I see the Commanders playing hard and definitely trying to avoid a sweep. All of that suggests Washington wins this one. I'll take the Commanders in a 23-14 win.
Tommy: The Commanders haven't lost a game since they played the Cowboys back in Week 12, believe it or not. Jayden Daniels was already playing great football for Washington, and he's continued to do so with thrilling back to back wins over Philadelphia and Atlanta in the last two games. The only issue that he's having as of late is turnovers, with at least one interception in five of his last six games.
The Cowboys' route to winning this games comes there, and they were able to generate three turnovers on the Commanders in the first meeting this season. I just think that with so many uncertainties and inconsistency on offense, plus the fact that Washington has something to play for in terms of playoff seeding, the Cowboys put up a good fight to end the season but come up just short in this one. Commanders 28, Cowboys 24
Kyle Youmans: This week marks one final look for the Cowboys at some notable names that are either slated to become free agents or are anticipated to build bigger roles in the future. Because of this, there's a good chance that we'll see the same fight and effort Dallas showed down the stretch before the Eagles matchup last week.
Plus, it's hard for me to pick the Commanders when it's uncertain how long their starters will play for their final game of the regular season. Give me the Cowboys to end the season on a high note, 27-20.
Patrik: Though they're still working on a decision as to what the playing time split will look like at quarterback, since this is Gut Feeling, my gut is feeling as if Trey Lance gets the start and plays significant time — Will Grier getting some reps as well. If I'm right, that should create a mobile QB dynamic that could give Dan Quinn's backups (I think any starters who play will be on a pitch count) a pretty hard time. After all, we all know how Quinn's defenses usually struggle against quarterbacks who can make plays with their legs, lest Cowboys' fans need to be reminded of that fact.
I think Mike McCarthy and Mike Zimmer both empty the playbooks, not knowing what their future holds anyway, and the same goes for a lot of players who will be heading to free agency in a few weeks and could benefit from making the finale into a highlight reel. I see a broom in the corner. 28-13, Cowboys
