IRVING, Texas – Former Patriots linebacker Gary Guyton will join the Cowboys roster.
Head coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that linebacker Orie Lemon will be placed on injured reserve to make room for Guyton, who spent all four of his NFL seasons in New England's 3-4 defense, compiling 229 combined tackles.
Guyton started six games for the Patriots last year and totaled 47 combined tackles and an interception. He went to Miami in the offseason but never played in a game for the Dolphins.
The Cowboys wanted more depth at inside linebacker after Dan Connor injured his neck and Lemon hurt his hamstring, leaving only Bruce Carter, Ernie Sims and Alex Albright as possible inside options.
Connor's status for this weekend's game against Philadelphia is still uncertain.
