OXNARD, Calif. — As it stands, the Dallas Cowboys have mostly dodged the bite of the injury bug with the exception of it unfortunately sinking its teeth into defensive end Sam Williams, who suffered a torn ACL at the beginning of training camp and, as such, is lost for the season.
There are several others nursing injuries as well as they enter their fourth padded practice, but thankfully nothing else that can be deemed as devastating news — though the verdict is out on the status of Israel Mukuamu.
The veteran safety has been impressive in this year's camp, especially with his versatility, but exited Friday's practice with an injury that will cause him to "miss some time", per head coach Mike McCarthy.
The amount of time has not been determined as of yet, but don't expect him to return to practice anytime soon, by the sound of it.
On a less concerning note, at least for now, is the status of former second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker — set to miss the annual Blue-White Practice on Saturday due to a groin injury but who is also expected to return to the field on Monday; and that indicates it is a minor issue he's working through.
Health will be key for Schoonmaker, who missed all of last year's camp as a rookie with plantar fasciitis and, this offseason, missing a chunk of the offseason program due to a hamstring ailment.
Ryan Flournoy continues to rehab from an ankle injury that occurred early in camp and running back Deuce Vaughn was off to the side with trainer Britt Brown tending to a hamstring injury on Friday, while rookie first-round pick Tyler Guyton is sidelined for the moment due to an illness that will cost him at least a couple of practices as he hydrates and heals.
