Tight ends coach John Garrett, the brother of head coach Jason Garrett, has reportedly been given permission by the Cowboys to interview in Miami for the vacant offensive coordinator position.
Although John Garrett's contract is expiring, the Dolphins had to ask for permission because he is technically still under contract.
The Cowboys did not give the Houston Texans permission to meet with linebackers coach Reggie Herring last week. With former coach Wade Phillips now running the defense in Houston, it was expected Phillips would try to land a few former assistants.
But with Herring under contract for 2011, and the Cowboys still uncertain what will happen defensively, it seemed logical they would wait to see how things shake out.
But as for John Garrett, being an offensive coordinator would not only be a huge step in his career, but one that doesn't seem likely in Dallas considering Jason Garrett plans to assume both roles as head coach and coordinator.
John Garrett was one of four assistants not under contract for 2011, along with kicking coach Chris Boniol, quarterback coach Wade Wilson and wide receiver coach Ray Sherman, who has already announced he will not be back next season.
