IRVING, Texas – While coach Jason Garrett was seen holding a play-sheet during Monday's practice and spent more time than usual with the offense, there will be no changes to the offensive play-calling duties, according to Jerry Jones.
The owner/GM said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 "The Fan" that offensive coordinator Bill Callahan will continue to call plays moving forward.
"I've seen him out there with sheets all year long," Jones said, referring to Garrett. "He hasn't changed what he's doing at all, as far as this season is concerned. Certainly Bill Callahan will be calling the plays as the coordinator."
On Monday, Garrett did admit somewhat to being more involved, but also said there wouldn't be major changes. [embedded_ad]
Despite coming off the bye weekend, which included four days off for the players from Thursday to Sunday, the players are also off Tuesday, as mandated by the NFL.
Jones said he expected quarterback Tony Romo to be at Valley Ranch on Tuesday as usual to go over the game-plan for the Giants game.
One of the players that should be involved in the plan is wide receiver Miles Austin, who hasn't caught a pass since Week 3 of the season and has missed six of the last eight games with a hamstring injury. Jones said Tuesday morning that Austin likely could've come back for the Saints game or even earlier, but the team has remained overly cautious because of his history of hamstring injuries and is hopeful to get a healthy and fresh Austin for the final six games.
"He had a good practice out there Monday," Jones said of Austin. "We really want to be conservative with that. To have him for these next six ballgames – I'm probably getting ahead of myself with the history we've had recently with his hamstrings. But to have him out there – he's our best route runner and can make a difference in what we're doing offensively."
While Jones also said he's hopeful the return of Morris Claiborne, Jason Hatcher and J.J. Wilcox will help, along with a healthier DeMarcus Ware, the owner commented on the status of Sean Lee, who was expected to miss the next two games, at least, with a hamstring injury.
"Sean is Superman. I mean it," Jones said. "He's rehabbing at the most intense level you can. If anyone can get back here in a couple of weeks, he can do it."
