FRISCO, Texas — It was somewhat of a busy day for the Dallas Cowboys as the clock ticked down to the 2024 NFL trade deadline. One on hand, they made the decision to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick. On the other, they opted to move on from both cornerback Andrew Booth and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.
Both Booth and Phillips were officially released on Tuesday afternoon, ending a fairly short stay for both in Dallas.
Booth was acquired via trade with the Minnesota Vikings during training camp in Oxnard, on Aug. 9, while Phillips made his way to Southern California to join the roster only five days later on Aug. 14 — the latter arriving by way of a trade with the New York Giants.
Booth was added to the roster in a player swap that sent Nahshon Wright to the Vikings.
The deal for Phillips had a caveat, though.
The Giants were to receive a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for Phillips and a 2025 seventh-round pick, conditional upon the veteran lineman being active in a minimum of two games in 2024. Although he spent time on injured reserve with a wrist injury, costing him a total of five games to start the season, he was on the field in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns and Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
His 21-day practice window was activated, but he never made it back to the active 53-man roster, which also means his release will not free up a roster spot in Dallas — though Booth's will.
As such, regarding Phillips, the deal stands and the picks will indeed swap as originally agreed upon by the Cowboys and Giants.
The duo leaves Dallas having produced no sacks, no pass break ups, no interceptions, no forced fumbles, no fumble recoveries and only seven combined tackles.
