Leary To Start Camp On Active PUP, DE Spencer Held Back

OXNARD, Calif. – The Cowboys will open training camp Thursday with a pair of players going on Active/PUP, including guard Ron Leary.

The third-year pro suffered a hamstring injury in the voluntary conditioning run held at Valley Ranch last week and will be held back for a few practices. The active list gives Leary the chance to be activated once his injury is fully rehabbed.

The setback won't help Leary's chance to win the starting left guard spot along with Mackenzy Bernadeau and perhaps Uche Nwaneri.

As expected, the Cowboys also placed defensive end Anthony Spencer on PUP, although he might be on there much longer, including into the regular season. If he's on PUP (Physically Unable to [embedded_ad] Perform) when the season starts, he'll be required to stay three for six weeks before he can return. The veteran pass-rusher is rehabbing from a microfracture knee surgery he had last September.

The Cowboys also placed defensive tackle Amobi Okoye on the Active/Non-Football Illness.
