Looking Like Finnegan Will Test Market

IRVING, Texas --Nothing has been announced by the Titans, but signs point to cornerback Cortland Finnegan hitting the market on March 13 rather than receiving the franchise tag from Tennessee.

The 28-year-old Finnegan would join Kansas City's Brandon Carr as arguably the two top free agent corners, assuming Atlanta's Brent Grimes gets the $10 million-plus franchise tag.

The Cowboys have been linked to both Finnegan and Carr, but likely will have to pursue them quickly once free agency opens rather than wait for the market to settle like they have done in recent years.

Not surprisingly, Finnegan wants big money -- possibly in the high $40 million range with more than $20 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys can save between $4 and $6 million this year by waiving Terence Newman, as has been speculated, but they also gave Orlando Scandrick a $27 million extension last summer. Mike Jenkins is scheduled to be a free agent next year.
