Throughout this season, Micah Parsons has talked a lot about being a better leader. From your perspective covering the team, do you think he's grown into that role both on the field and off? Or is there still work to do?
Patrik: I can tell you he's definitely talking the part, and that's all I can go on when comparing him to previous seasons wherein he seemed anything but. I do recall times wherein I was adamant that some people simply aren't meant to lead, but that reality doesn't mean they can't be a phenomenal lieutenant — it just means maybe they're not designed to be a general.
Parsons has made a conscious effort to change the narrative surrounding his leadership in 2024 and, for many, it's taking hold.
So whether you believe it actually is or is not is up to you and whatever burning fury you may have inside of yourself about the topic but, again, he's saying all the right things in a season that has long been off the rails, requiring him to step up vocally — along with Mike McCarthy, Mike Zimmer and others in the staff crediting him publicly for his evolution — and that's where things currently stand.
Tommy: We can't really speak as much to off the field since we don't get to see him much after games or during practice, but it's clear that when Parsons is on the field, he has an impact across the defense and is one of the best players in the league. I'm not so sure his leadership style is as much of a vocal one as it is leading by example, especially considering how much he wrecks the game.
All of his coaches and teammates are complimentary of what Parsons brings to the table on the field every time we get to talk to them, so there's nothing to say that he hasn't stepped up to the challenge that Mike Zimmer presented him earlier this year.
