Since both are young players, what does it mean for Cooper Beebe if Brock Hoffman wins the starting center job? Would Beebe be groomed as Zack Martin's future replacement at right guard? – John Masiado/Hellertown, PA
Nick Harris: That is certainly a possibility. All of a sudden, the Cowboys have the luxury of interior offensive line depth in the form of Beebe and T.J. Bass. If Hoffman locks down the starting center position, those two will compete to be the first guy to rotate in if any interior guy goes down with injury or for when Zack Martin hangs it up. While brief, Bass has the NFL experience. Beebe has the versatility and high draft status. It will be interesting to see the dynamics of that room play out over the next few seasons, regardless of who comes away with the starting center job at the end of training camp.
Mickey: First of all, let's see how things play out the rest of training camp, especially in the preseason games. But right now, nothing Brock Hoffman has done suggests he can't be the starting center. And that has nothing to do with Beebe's development moving from guard in college to center in the NFL. But the Cowboys also are cross training the rookie, giving hm some reps at guard, too. And certainly there is a possibility Beebe ends up playing guard, but let's not get in a hurry to send Martin to pasture even though in his 11th season he's in the final year of his contract and has hinted this could be it. And that would't be a bad option, either.
