Mailbag: Secondary's start due to young WRs?

How much of the secondary's strong start at camp can be attributed to young and inexperienced wide receivers?Eddie Schmidt/Austin, TX

Nick Harris: I don't attribute the secondary's start to the young receivers at all. If anything, the young receivers have made it a bit easier for the offensive side, but it's truly been an all-around effort in the defensive back unit early on. Jourdan Lewis has put himself in the right positions. DaRon Bland is picking up right where he left off, and Caelen Carson is throwing his physicality around and coming down with the ball along the way. I've liked the start that the receivers have had to camp. I just think the secondary has performed better.

Mickey: First of all, let's not do too much judging before the pads come on, which they have this week. But still, these young corners are doing a nice job of jumping routes or going up and attacking the ball as if it is theirs to receive. Not going to diminish the interceptions taking place, and really haven't seen that many bad routes causing the picks. Linebacker Eric Kendricks' pick of Dak the other day had more to do with how he dropped into coverage and reading the play. And Caelen Carson's pick of Trey Lance on a deep ball had everything to do with the rookie's tight coverage. Just remember, this is practice and usually the defense is ahead of the offense at this point in camp since a lot of what is going on right now has to do with play installation.
