Add another award to Jerry Jones' already-accomplished resume, one that has been bolstered here recently.
On the heels of his Pro Football Hall of Fame announcement, which will officially take place in August, Jones has also been named the recipient of the SportsBusiness Journal/Daily Lifetime Achievement Award for 2017. He will be officially honored May 24 at he Sports Business Awards in New York City.
In a recent article on sportsbusinessdaily.com to announce the award, Jones was described as "An avowed wildcatter who spent his early years in the NFL as an outlier, only to emerge at the core of its power structure after decades of against-the-grain innovation."
Known for buying the Cowboys for $140 million back in 1989, Jones has since turned the franchise into the wealthiest sports teams in the world, worth more than $4 billion, according to Forbes.
He's also paved the way for sports venues by spearheading not only AT&T Stadium in Arlington but more recently, the opening of The Star in Frisco, the state-of-the-art new headquarters for the team.
Jones is going into the Hall of Fame in August as a contributor, which include the NFL's move to free agency, new TV deals with the networks and even his latest push to help football get back to Los Angeles.
Past winners of this award are Peter Ueberroth, Billie Jean King, Paul Tagliabue, Jerry Reinsdorf, Dan Rooney, Dick Ebersol and Bud Selig.
