Pool, Holmes, Jones Practice After Passing Conditioning Test

OXNARD, Calif. -- Running back Felix Jones, wide receiver Andre Holmes and safety Brodney Pool all practiced Friday for the first time since passing their second conditioning test Wednesday.

Holmes and Pool said failing the test Sunday was more disappointing than embarrassing, but they're ready to put it behind them and move forward.

Both players said they believe they have a clean slate, and head coach Jason Garrett backed those sentiments.

"They just need to practice," Garrett said. "That story is done with. I've talked to all of them about that. It doesn't matter that that happened anymore. What matters is what they do now."

Holmes offered no excuses as to why he failed the test. Pool didn't know why he failed, either, but said he didn't eat correctly before the test and was nervous.

Holmes has immersed himself in the playbook to make sure he's not too far behind the pack of players competing for the third wide receiver spot.

"I still have a chance," Holmes said. "We've got a lot of preseason games. We've got a lot of practices. I think I'll have some chances to make some big catches and show I'm reliable with the plays."

Pool said defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who played an instrumental role in bringing Pool to Dallas after coaching the safety in Cleveland, offered encouragement for Pool after failing the initial test.

Pool's absence allowed Barry Church to take the majority of first-team snaps at free safety, and he hasn't disappointed early in camp.

"I've been in the league eight years," Pool said. "Football is football. Barry's been doing a good job, and all those other guys. The young guys have been doing a great job, too. I just have to go out there and compete."
