Practice Points: Key players return from injury

OXNARD, Calif - The Rams were back in Oxnard for the second time in less than a week and it's the the time overall to face the Cowboys after they met up in Sunday's preseason opener for both teams.

Here are some quick observations from the staff writers how it went down on Wednesday:

  • Some positive news for Deuce Vaughn arrived on Wednesday. The young running back returned to full pads after having missed several practices due to a hamstring injury, and he also participated in full team drills in the Cowboys' scrimmage against the Rams. That puts him on track to potentially be available for the second preseason matchup against the Raiders, and that's key as Vaughn finds himself locked in a heated battle at running back. - (Patrik Walker)
  • Early in practice, DeMarvion Overshown was evaluated on the sideline by Dr. Jim Maurer for a hip pointer. While he did not leave practice nor go to the medical tent, Overshown remained out of practice for the rest of the day. In addition, Damone Clark was in street clothes for today's practice as he works through a sore left knee. - (Nick Harris)
  • The offensive side of the ball struggled mightily against the Los Angeles Rams defense in the back-half of practice, as the Rams' pass rush made life difficult for Cooper Rush and Trey Lance. The secondary for the Rams accounted for a handful of pass breakups, as no offensive player for the Cowboys was able to generate any momentum in two-minute drills to wrap up the day. - (Nick Harris)
  • Chauncey Golston made his presence felt in the scrimmage against the Rams, both in team drills and in pass rush combo drills — winning far more reps than he lost. The young pass rusher continues to trend in the right direction and that has to make the Cowboys happy, considering they're looking for him to step up in a big way following the loss of Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler to free agency, and Sam Williams to a season-ending injury. - (Patrik Walker)
  • Earl Bostick suffered an apparent lower leg/knee injury in the middle of Wednesday's practice. He was actually filling in for Tyler Guyton at left tackle for a series when he went down and had to be helped off the field and into the medical tent. The Cowboys have already suffered a significant injury at left tackle with Chuma Edoga (toe) expected to miss two months. Bostick is in his second season with the team after spending last year on the practice squad. - (Nick Eatman)
  • With Bostick down, the Cowboys trying to limit rookie Tyler Guyton and Edoga already out for a while, the team moved Josh Ball from guard out to tackle for the rest of practice. Ball was drafted in the fourth round of 2021 as a tackle but has moved inside over the last two seasons. - (Nick Eatman)
