FRISCO, Texas – For the first time in nearly nine months, the Cowboys are holding a regular-season practice.
Only three players are not expected to participate on some level Wednesday: safety Xavier Woods, defensive tackle Datone Jones and center Travis Frederick.
Woods is likely to miss Sunday's opener at Carolina, but his backup, Kavon Frazier, is planning to play through the shoulder injury he suffered in the third preseason game.
The Cowboys are hopeful Jones (knee) could be back as early as a couple of weeks. The team did add defensive tackle depth by signing Aziz Shittu to the practice squad.
Frederick still doesn't have a timetable to return from Guillain-Barre syndrome, though the Cowboys chose to keep him on the active roster rather than move him to injured reserve for a minimum of eight weeks.
Head coach Jason Garrett announced five captains for the 2018 season as voted on by the players: quarterback Dak Prescott and guard Zack Martin on offense; linebacker Sean Lee and Tyrone Crawford on defense; and punter Chris Jones on special teams.
