FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys' dynamic duo of rookie playmakers has caught eyes around the league, as evidenced by Tuesday's weekly award announcements.
Both Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have been nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award, the league announced Tuesday morning. It's the second-straight nomination for Elliott, and the first nomination for Prescott after both rookies showed out in Sunday's 31-17 win against the Bears.
The pair is joined by another duo of NFC East rookies on the voting list. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and running back Wendell Smallwood are both up for honors after the Eagles' 34-3 demolition of Pittsburgh on Sunday. Cleveland cornerback Brian Boddy-Calhoun is also up for the award after the Browns' loss to Miami.
Prescott and Elliott combined to play the best game of their young careers in Week 3. Prescott completed 19-of-24 passes for 248 yards and threw the first touchdown of his career – a 17-yard strike to Dez Bryant. He also rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown, increasing his tally to two rushing touchdowns on the season.
Elliott didn't hit paydirt against the Bears, but he did put out his best rushing effort of the season. He carried the ball a whopping 30 times for 140 yards – an average of 4.7 yards per carry.
Fans can vote for one of these five players on www.nfl.com/rookies through Friday at 3 PM ET to determine the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. The Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week will be announced Friday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.
