Role Call: Snoop Conner adds to RB depth

(Editor's Note: As part of the preparation for training camp, this series will introduce 25 players who are new to the Cowboys' roster, rookies and veterans alike. Next up is Snoop Conner.)

How He Got Here: After being drafted in the fifth round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, Conner played one season on the active roster in The Sunshine State where he tallied 42 yards and one touchdown in eight games. His second season saw him land on the practice squad in 2023 before being waived at the conclusion of the year. The Cowboys, needing running back depth, signed Conner to a reserve/future contract shortly after on January 18 to solidify more depth and more competition at the position group going into 2024.

What's Next: Conner will take his shot at earning a role in a crowded running back room with little to no certainty going into training camp. The assumption is that Ezekiel Elliott is the favorite to nab the RB1 position, but everything after that is anyone's best guess. Conner will compete with Royce Freeman, Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, Nathaniel Peat, Deuce Vaughn and Hunter Luepke for a 53-man roster spot/practice squad spot in 2024 with each player having just as solid of an opportunity as the other.

Did You Know: Conner has only started two games in his collegiate and professional career combined, one in 2020 and one in 2021 for Ole Miss. In his college career, Conner totaled 1,580 yards and 26 touchdowns before declaring early after three seasons.

Quotable: "I feel like he has that grit to him. He has that fight to him. And he wants to learn. He wants to be better. And I feel like a guy like that pushes me to be the best player I can be. So I feel like we just kind of have that push and pull, and he's a very different running back than I am, but there's things I can learn from him. He's a very physical runner, he gets behind his pads, and I like that about him." - former teammate and starting Jaguars RB Travis Etienne Jr.
