Scouting Report: Re-Visiting Mark Nzeocha's Skillset At LB, Special Teams

Name:Mark Nzeocha
Position:LB
Height:6-2
Weight: 239
College:Wyoming
Draft:236th overall by Dallas in 2015

Report:Suffered an ACL tear in the 7th game of 2014 season but was still selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2015 draft – selection 236 overall.

While at Wyoming played both inside and outside linebacker spots. Was an effective wrap-up tackler in the hole. Flows well to the ball. Outstanding playing speed and foot quickness. Can work in and out of the hole. Can avoid blocks. Will play downhill quickly. Nose for the ball. Was normally in the pile.

Thought he had a much better chance of making plays when he was on the move instead of taking on blocks at the point. Not the type to play toe-to-toe and be good at it. Needs to be on the move. Effort to chase is outstanding. Plays with some balance when going down the line. Gets in the most trouble when he gets hooked up.

He's flexible enough to take the back out of the backfield in coverage. Puts himself in position to cover with his athletic ability. I was impressed with the way that he flies to the ball. Plays with pace and quickness. Can carry his man up the field in coverage.

I thought of him initially being a core special teamer with traits as a backup weak side linebacker. He has spent the majority of the season on the Non-Football Injury list and has been practicing with the scout team without any issues. With all the injuries at linebacker on this squad, he will be asked to potentially fill in at a couple of different spots.
