Sound Off: Taco On His First Practice; Awuzie Back At Rookie Minicamp; More

FRISCO, Texas – Day One of rookie minicamp is complete. Saturday the Cowboys' rookies and eligible first-year veterans are getting back to work for Day Two.

Here are some highlights from Saturday's locker room session:

First-round defensive lineman Taco Charlton on his first practice Friday working with defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli:

"It's pretty much what I expected. I heard all the stories about Coach Marinelli, how he's going to get after me, how crazy he is. It's definitely what I expected, but I enjoyed it. He got after me. We did some great things."

Second-round defensive back Chidobe Awuzie on his return to The Star after spending Friday at his college graduation:

"I'm really excited. I actually just got through a walkthrough with the coaches and the other guys. They're kind of more acclimated than me. They know all the defenses. But I was studying all last night when I got done with graduation and this morning."

Sixth-round cornerback Marquez White on the team's message to the rookies regardless of their draft position:

"Coach said the first day, 'It's not about where you're drafted. We coach everybody like first-rounders.' So that's really important. Just go out there and show them that you want to be here. Be very enthusiastic at practice. They want to see that."

Quarterback Austin Appleby on his opportunity to compete as an undrafted rookie:

"It's certainly a dream come true. I've been dreaming to be a Dallas Cowboy ever since I was a little kid. … You walk into this locker room, you see the star on the helmet. It's been really cool to think about the journey to get to this point, all the hard work that's been put in to get to here. Now the opportunity is right here, now you've got to make the most of it and I intend on doing so."
