2025 NFL Draft Defensive Tackle Prospects

Fans have to be wondering if the Cowboys’ defensive interior is ever going to get fixed. The last time the team finished among the league’s top 10 in rushing yards allowed was seven years ago, and it ranked 29th in 2024. Fortunately, their top defensive tackle, Osa Odighizuwa, was re-signed to a new contract before he could ever reach free agency, where he would have been perhaps the best player available at the position. Thank goodness. Dallas then inked Solomon Thomas, a former first-round pick who is returning home after having played his high school football in the Dallas suburb of Coppell, Texas. He’ll provide veteran savvy and depth, if nothing else. With Odighizuwa locked up and Thomas on board, the Cowboys now desperately need Mazi Smith to finally make the jump. The team’s first-round pick in 2023 showed progress last season, but more is definitely needed. Can new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus unlock Smith’s potential? After those three, though, questions at the position only deepen. Depth is still a serious issue, so the Cowboys may have to spend a little more in free agency. Regardless, they will also likely go hunting for a defensive tackle as well in the upcoming draft – perhaps even within the first three rounds – in an attempt to finally find a cure for what ails their run defense.
