Make no mistake, linebacker is always a position that needs to be addressed. Not just because of the defensive aspect, but big guys who can run are a must on special teams as well. The question each year is how critical that need is, and in the case of the 2025 Cowboys, the answer is, well, pretty serious. Dallas quickly signed Kenneth Murray Jr. and Jack Sanborn in free agency, two players who could make an immediate impact. However, the only sure thing seemingly remaining from last season’s linebacking crew is Marist Liufau after his impressive rookie debut. Can DeMarvion Overshown work his way back from another heartbreaking knee injury? He was perhaps the Cowboys’ most exciting player last year but probably won’t return until midseason at best. Will Damone Clark find new life with a new coaching staff? Are there any younger players ready to step up, like Buddy Johnson? There could still be help coming in free agency, but Dallas is also going to have to add a linebacker or two during the draft and the rookie-free-agent signing frenzy that always follows. Yes, there are likely bigger fish to fry during the first two days of the draft, but expect the position to be addressed for sure come Day 3. After all, linebacker is always a need.
