Twitchy movements make it hard for first contact. Runs bigger than his body type and takes care of the ball at a high level. Used in every part of the field by Oregon, including in the red zone. | May not be an every-down back at the NFL level. Struggled in pass protection, though it did improve as the year went on. Vision wasn’t perfect and would get caught in the wash of imperfect offensive line play. |
OVERVIEW: James was one of the more explosive running backs in the country over the last three seasons. He started by making the most of limited action in 2022, scoring five touchdowns on just 46 carries before having a breakout year in 2023. He led the Pac-12 as a sophomore with 7.1 rushing yards per attempt and carried the ball 107 times. Then in his one season as the primary runner following the departure of Bucky Irving, James tallied 1,267 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. His low-level workload and athleticism will intrigue teams this April.
