Smart and durable runner with a physical element to his game. Wide base allows for good balance and ability to break tackles. Good vision and timing when waiting for blocks to develop. Fantastic in the red zone. | Not great in pass protection. Footwork and hand placement was sloppy at times. Doesn’t showcase an ability to run effective routes. Much better running up field than laterally. |
OVERVIEW: Johnson was a force in short-yardage and workhorse situations. During his final season, he led the Big Ten with 1,537 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, capping out at 6.4 yards per carry. He scored at least one touchdown in all 12 games he played last year, which was the longest streak in program history. Johnson carried a significant workload for the Hawkeyes, tallying 240 carries and 22 receptions, but it was his only full year of production at the collegiate level. Teams will have to weigh those elements in their scouting.
