Incredible athletic build for the safety spot with long arms. Sure tackler and closing speed showed on tape in 2023. Stays close in coverage and has some change-of-direction skill. | Inexperience after one real year of production before an ACL injury ended his 2024 season. Doesn’t see the field cleanly, making incorrect reads that forces missteps. Needs to clean up footwork overall and not rely on catch-up speed. |
OVERVIEW: In 2023, it was hard not to see Winston's impact. The former four-star recruit took over the starting job for the first time and was named All-Big Ten after a team-high 60 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, an interception and five pass breakups. His stat-filled season only fueled the fire entering 2024, but his season was cut short after just two games due to a partially torn ACL suffered against Bowling Green. Instead of returning to school, Winston elected to declare for the draft and bank on teams valuing his 2023 tape and his versatile skill set.
