SAN ANTONIO --As expected, the Cowboys' starters will play no more than two series in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Broncos.
"We don't put a particular play number on it or drive number on it," head coach Jason Garrett said, "but we'd like to get the first units out there and have a good couple first drives -- eight, 10, 12 (plays), whatever it is -- where we feel good about it and then get the second guys in there and see them work."
Garrett believes the young players need extensive game reps because the lockout wiped out their offseason work. That means projected rookie starters Tyron Smith and David Arkin are likely to stay in the game longer.
