For nearly 20 years, the Cowboys have had a growing relationship with the City of Arlington. Many people have been influential in that process, and one of them was recently recognized in a major way.

Susan Skaggs, the Cowboys' director of civic affairs at AT&T Stadium, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Arlington Visionary Award. The honor, which was created in 2017, was created to recognize those citizens who have provided visionary direction for the City of Arlington' tourism industry.

Skaggs, who has been with the Cowboys since 1990, played a key role in building a relationship with Arlington, which has been the home of AT&T Stadium since it officially opened in 2009.

"The award is meant to recognize people in Arlington who have really made a difference in this tourism industry," said Brent DeRaad, the president & CEO of the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau. "When we take a look at people who are visionary, we're looking at folks who have helped paint the picture for what Arlington could be in the future. That certainly fits Susan Skaggs. It's really been a pleasure working with her and to learn from here and see what her thoughts are of what Arlington could be as we move forward in the next few decades."

Raul H. Gonzalez, mayor Pro Tem of the City of Arlington, said Skaggs has been a joy to work alongside for the last two decades.

"When I think of Susan, I think of elegance, grace and really a can-do attitude," Gonzalez said. "She's been very critical in making things happen in the City of Arlington."

Beginning in August 2005 with the "Yes Arlington" stadium campaign, Susan directed that same enthusiasm and increased awareness of this philanthropic spirit in the Arlington area. On behalf of the Dallas Cowboys Football Club, she was responsible for work related to charity events and outreach efforts for the early election and election day "get-out-the vote." She was also actively involved in the plans to secure North Texas Super Bowl XLV as well as the Final Four, and she has helped with bids for AT&T Stadium events.

In 2006, Susan was appointed by the Arlington City Council to serve on the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau (Experience Arlington) Board of Directors, where she has served as Marketing Chair. Additionally, she has served on the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

"Her engagement and passion, not only locally but at the state level as well, has meant so much to the industry and has elevated travel and tourism in so many ways," said Erika Boyd, president & CEO of Texas Travel Alliance. "We're so thankful for Susan and the Dallas Cowboys."
