OXNARD, Calif. – After spending the first week of camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, cornerback Trevon Diggs is moving back to the active roster.
The star cornerback, who suffered a torn ACL last season, has passed his physical and was moved off of PUP. That means Diggs can start practicing in full with the Cowboys, who just so happen to put the pads on for the first time for Tuesday's practice.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said the Cowboys will ease Diggs back in "smartly" here in the first few days and weeks.
"The biggest thing is for him to stay on his rehab program with Britt (Brown)," McCarthy said. "And to get him into the jog-throughs and the teaching drills is the first step. We'll see how we progress into the individual drills."
Diggs has been rehabbing the injury all offseason but has yet to participate in team activities from the OTAs or the minicamp.
He suffered the injury in practice before the Week 3 game in Arizona last September and spent all of the season on IR.
"No one wants to sit in the classroom all day and watch his brothers compete," McCarthy said when asked how much Diggs missed being out there. "I know he'll be excited to be out there."
The two-time Pro Bowler led the NFL in interceptions in 2021 with 11, tying the franchise record with Everson Walls. Diggs is pairing up with DaRon Bland, who led the NFL in picks last year with nine, including an NFL-record five returns for touchdowns.
