- WR Cole Beasley - He's basically improved his game every year of his career. For the fourth straight season, Beasley had a career-high in receiving yards with 833, which led the entire team for the first time in his career. He established himself in 2016 as one of the NFL's best slot receivers.

- S J.J. Wilcox - For a guy who was considered the odd man out of making the team back in training camp, Wilcox more than surprised everyone this past year. More than anything, Wilcox proved himself as the team's best hitter, punishing ball carriers and receivers who stood in his way.

- DL David Irving - Anyone who can earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors on just 19 snaps is impressive. Late in the year, Irving showed some dominance

- FB Keith Smith - Not only did he improve this year, but did so while changing positions from linebacker to fullback. Smith brought the same tenacity to the offensive side of the ball and opened quite a few holes for Zeke.

- DL Terrell McClain - Often injured in the previous years, McClain was one of the more reliable defensive players in 2016, which should help him as he enters free agency this spring.

- S Jeff Heath - While he had a playoff game to remember, Heath was a steady player throughout the year, especially on special teams where he consistently makes plays.

- P Chris Jones - Don't look now, but he's making a case to become one of the best punters in franchise history. Quietly, Jones continues to be a weapon for the Cowboys' special teams. He also added a 30-yard run on a fake punt, showing off his speed.

- TE Geoff Swaim - He'd be higher had he not missed the second half of the year. But his value was evident even then as the Cowboys struggled to find a consistent backup tight end who could block and catch passes. Â

- LB Damien Wilson - An eye injury in camp got him off to a slow start but Wilson picked it up and by the end of the year, he was a regular on defense and special teams and figures to compete for a starting spot in 2017.

- LB Sean Lee - Usually, the team's best players don't make this list but considering Lee made first-team All-Pro for the first time, he warrants a spot here. Lee was healthy all year and had dominant performances throughout the year.

Honorable Mention – Morris Claiborne – He'd have a case for the No. 1 spot if he had played most of the year. From a production standpoint, he might have made the biggest increase as anyone else you'll see on here.
