Cedric Smith enters his second season with the Dallas Cowboys as an assistant strength and conditioning coach after previously serving in that role for the Denver Broncos for four seasons (2017-20). Smith now has 21 years of NFL coaching experience.
In his tenured career, Smith served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Kansas City (2007-09) and Houston (2010-13). During his time with the Texans, Smith was recognized as the NFL's 2012 Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the league's strength and conditioning coaches.
Smith's professional playing career as a running back began when Minnesota drafted him in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 1990 NFL Draft. He went on to serve stints with Minnesota, New Orleans, Washington and Arizona in his six-year playing career. In 72 regular season games, including 14 starts, Smith recorded 100 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries to go along with 20 receptions for 141 yards and two scores.
In college, Smith was a three-year starter at the University of Florida, where he was a primary blocker for Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. He received his degree in health sciences from Florida in 1990.
Smith graduated from Enterprise, Ala., High School and was inducted into the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
Smith and his wife, Teresa, have five children: Chandler, Canyon, Cole, Cameron and Cerraya.
