Mitch LaPoint joined the Cowboys Scouting Department in 2005 and served as the west area scout for three years before moving to the southeast area in 2008. In 2015 LaPoint was a national scout, and before the 2019 season he was promoted to assistant director of college scouting. In 2022 he became director of college scouting.
LaPoint spent seven years (1998-04) working in the Kansas City Chiefs player personnel department. From 2002-04 he served as the club's midwest area scout and football operations coordinator. As part of his operations responsibilities, he coordinated the Chiefs training camp at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.
From 1999-01 LaPoint was an assistant in the scouting department, after spending 1998 as an intern.
The Lawrence, Kan., native received his bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Kansas in 1998. LaPoint and his wife, Jenny, have two sons, John and Sam, and reside in Tulsa, Okla.
