Scott Sehnert was named the Dallas Cowboys director of sports performance leading into the 2016 season. In his role, Sehnert works closely with the athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches in developing player-specific nutrition and recovery plans.
Sehnert came to Dallas after spending the previous seven years as the sports dietitian at Auburn University. In his role at Auburn, Sehnert oversaw the sports nutrition needs for AU's 21 varsity sports, including nutrition education, counseling, training tables, body composition analysis and supplement evaluation.
Sehnert earned his bachelor's degree in dietetics from Ball State in 2003. He earned his first master's degree in nutritional sciences with a wellness and sports nutrition emphasis from the University of Kentucky in 2005. He completed his clinical training at UK's Chandler Medical Center and the Lexington V.A. Hospital.
Sehnert then earned a master's in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise physiology from Michigan State University in 2009.
Upon completion of his first master's and clinical training, Sehnert spent three months as an intern with the U.S. Speed Skating Team and the University of Utah Sports Nutrition Program (2005). While working towards his second master's, Sehnert was the coordinator of sports and cardiovascular nutrition program at Michigan State. During the final year of his master's program, he worked as an intern with the Spartans strength and conditioning staff.
Sehnert is a Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and a member of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition group. He holds certifications with the AND as a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics and with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is an active member with the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association.
Sehnert and his wife, Beth, have a son, Leland, and a daughter, Lyla.
